Easter In Quarantine

Resurrection cookies

Five activities you can do with your family for Easter while in quarantine.

#1

Have a small brunch. Prepare a tray of brunch foods to set out while you watch the Easter service on the internet. Get ideas from the family for foods they would enjoy. Ham, boiled eggs (original I know), carrot sticks and hummas, a nice breakfast salad. Make homemade bread, cinnamon rolls or scones or simply buy donuts. Serve tea or coffee and juice and use the good dishes like china. Make it a day to remember.

#2

Make something together you have never or rarely made before. When I asked my girls what they wanted, they said the wanted to make peeps. I was surprised by the response. I did it once for them when we lived overseas. It was a great memory. They weren’t lovely but they tasted great. But making them as a family is even better. Maybe ,this time they will look like peeps.

#3

Make Resurrection cookies the night before Easter. Talk about how isolated the disciples must have felt those days when they were locked up for fear of being found out. Ask them” how do you think they felt”? Ask your kids if they are having any anxious thoughts about being “locked up”? Discuss how Jesus left a great comforter to stay with us.

Resurrection cookies along with breakfast! Happy Easter

Spend some time reading or watching a movie about the resurrection of Jesus. Memorize an Easter Scripture. Talk about the week before Jesus’ death and the week after he arose. What a glorious week that must have been for the diciples to eat with Jesus and talk with Him.

#5

Hunt eggs in the house. Much of the time in Oklahoma, Easter is too cold to hunt eggs outside. Often we hunt them in the house. Just be sure to keep count of how many real eggs you hide or later you could have some problems!

These are just ideas. Pick one or two, see how they go. Then do more if there is time. Spend your time helping your family focus on Jesus and the wonderful comfort He can give. Remind them that Jesus said He has given us the same power that it took for Him to rise from the dead. He loves us more than anything!! Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to have the “perfect” Easter at home. Easter will be different separted due to the quarantine, but different is not always bad. Relax and celebrate our Risen Lord.

He is risen!

He is risen indeed!
